If I know anything, I know that some people like to create really nice imaginary characters just to put them through he...ck... I'm not saying that stickfreeks is that type of person. I'm saying that I am.

Idk. Have you seen Theo? Stick did say that she loves her boi theo, but also kidnapped, tortured, and gave him a terrible situation so that he could be rescued. I mean... I do the same thing.... Except they usually die... :3

I know. Characters grow by being tortured. You feel bad for them and want to hug them. Since they have ptsd they let you and you have a forever cute little pet in your imagination until you forget. But why would you ever forget? Your imaginary character is the best ever. Especially if they are based off of your imagination when you were a kid.

That would definitely apply to some of my characters in my teen years! lol
I was very edgy and would write a lot of depressing, violent stuff for the kicks and the feelz. Some of it was fine. Some of it I regret.

Nowadays I write a lot about overcoming dire circumstances and finding hope even when darkness is closing in.
(This generally requires that I include dire circumstances and dark situations.)

Adult me cares way more about what the characters struggle with, stand for, and represent... so I design their trials to maximize their arc's impact on the theme of the story rather than just mindlessly tormenting for the shock value. Guess that's just part of growing up as an author.
