I'm at a point where there's so many Exvulnerum-related things I want to work on in my spare time that I don't even have the urge to play video games anymore.

Bad news(?), everybody...

I am cutting ties with TopWebComics. I am completely dissatisfied with the overly sexualized images they allow to be displayed prominently on their site, particularly in the advertisements they approve. I have had email correspondence with TWC about their ad policy, and the answers I received--while completely reasonable and within their rights--are not satisfactory enough for me to maintain my participation in the rankings.

I refuse to keep sending my readers to their site when there is no way to know A) how young my readers are, B) what kinds of tasteless images they will be exposed to during their visit. It is not compatible with my conscience or my principles.

As I said in an email to TWC last year:

Just to make my position clear: I do not have a big problem with R-rated comics being on the List, but I do have a problem with overly sexualized images being used to represent them.

I'm hoping we can come to an understanding which benefits the majority of TWC visitors and webcomic creators :) I think the best solution is for all people to feel comfortable and safe on TWC--and proud to be a contributing member!
And today:

I understand that there is a grey area when it comes to offensive ads, and some borderline ads are going to depend on subjective opinion, but this ad in particular has made me lose confidence in the appropriate limits of this grey area when it comes to your site's ad approval threshold. It is not something I am comfortable with.

If your policy about ads and sexual images gets an update which keeps these ads out, I will consider reinstating my participation, but until then, I am removing all links to TWC and will no longer send my readers there, along with giving an explanation on my forum (where readers participate in a thread which encourages them to visit TWC and vote every day).
The good news is...

We will be replacing this thread with something similar!! The fun will continue! We just have to figure out the details!

And, I will be creating the sky blue Evey wallpaper requested by Team Blood Oath as soon as I get some time to do so!

Thank you, everybody, for participating in this thread and helping Exvulnerum's exposure!! Your votes certainly helped the comic get more views!!!

Completely see your point.

The only issue now is to decide how you will advertise the comic if at all.

I'm pretty sure I would never have found the comic if it wasn't for seeing it on TWC when I was there voting for some of my other favorites.

Lots of people have found the comic through TWC, for sure, but we've been advertising there for so long that we've basically reached the saturation point for that particular market as it is anyway. In other words, the number of new visitors we receive for a given ad run nowadays is relatively low, although for the price, it's still reasonable.

Our plan for now is to begin advertising in earnest on Facebook and Instagram, which have a pretty sophisticated advertising system in place. Aside from managing social media and Umbra Rumble, that's the main project I've been working on for the past several weeks, and we should be ready to launch a new ad campaign within the next few days. Depending on how that goes, we may need to explore other options, but I'm optimistic that we'll see a large increase in traffic in the near future if this campaign goes well.

So @Avidro and I have been brainstorming some various thread ideas to replace this one, and I was wondering: what was it about this thread that made it so fun and relatively popular? Was it the team aspect? Getting to influence future voting incentives? Knowing you were helping the comic? Or something else?

A fun way of helping the comic, with a good bunch of random chatter and a little bit of friendly competition.
That did it for me :twineydoll:

I personally like that we got to influence the incentives but I have to say it took me so long to work up the courage to ask someone to be my teammate. That being said, I did enjoy the weird things we got because of the two person suggestions.

This thread has been reborn as Disqus Dive!
Please note that streaks no longer increment by 0.5 ... Now, each post increments a streak by 1! Hopefully this will make adjusting streak numbers more natural and less prone to mistakes.
