Caprice
Maina was quite taken aback at all the commotion. She watched the pangolin hurtle towards the sponge, which seemed to have just created a large amount of quickly spreading fire throughout the arena floor. While a precious second passed she saw the rabbit turn the fire into grass, but then she ran as fast as she could to the stairs leading to the network of raised platforms that were blissfully free of fire. Finding one that was out of sight and mostly protected from the circling phoenix and sponge above, she settled down to work.
This power she has, to change ones emotions in the blink of an eye, is usually very underestimated. Most of the caprice deimons seem to have no intention to actively change that, which she supposed was a blessing in this case. No one realizes how much of their minds- their actions- are governed by emotion, and how unbelievably easy it is to turn that against them. If you let an ill wishing caprice deimon run loose it could go turn a government against its country, neighbor against neighbor, sister against brother all in the blink of an eye. It could leave destruction, sadness and death in its wake, spreading faster than a plague, all without lifting a finger.
Maina knew it was time, that it was necessary to counter now while everyone was distracted, and because of this she also knew what to do.
She thought for a second, who first? After watching the sponge hurtle thin pieces of itself into the pangolin and fling it up in the air like a rag doll, she decided on the rabbit. This attack took a different sort of focus, one that was full of iron and stone, that would not break for anything. She stared at the rabbit, watching for its emotional center, until a small colored flame appeared in its head. Emotions were visualized differently for every deimon, and it often said something about their own personalities. She captured that flame and reached inside it, sorting it into its respective parts, picking out almost every one. When she was done the fire was a dull gray color, as if all the life had been leeched out of it. She stored the rest of the colored fire in herself, minus the blue sadness, which she left in the rabbit partially to increase the efficiency and partially because she just hated the color blue. This was a state she liked to call the empty one, and it felt like nothing was worth it. Fighting, moving, talking, thinking, breathing, living, none of it was worth it. Nothing remains but an empty soon to be lifeless shell, and as the breath faded from the rabbit's lungs and the red from its eyes the grass around it began to smoke and return to fire. The rabbit slumped to the ground unconscious as the flames closed their hungry jaws in around it.
Behind the barrier, Alya smiled sadly. She knew Maina hated this attack, but they chose it for its effectiveness and speed, in addition to the ability to save the affected party later down the line if possible. That should keep her satisfied enough for now. Alya turned her attention back to the rest of the battlefield. She grinned, "Things have begun to heat up, no?" After laughing to herself she send a wave of emotion that could only be described as the feeling you get when you've just helped someone, somewhat akin to pride down the connection between her and Maina.
Maina laughed while she turned towards the phoenix and the sponge. She didn't like the sponge's motion. back and forth as if there was some secret purpose behind it. The wave of pride from Alya gave light to a risky plan. She stared at the phoenix watching until the flame appeared inside it. Reaching in she grabbed it, but instead of taking away emotions she increased them, all of the joy and pride of living and the adrenaline, especially the adrenaline of flying, and as a phoenix tends to do, being reborn from ashes. The only thing she took was fear, which she threw to the fire where it created a patch of smoking air upon contact. This was a limit breaker, one that would let you preform superhuman(or animal) stunts and for a short period of time release the hidden potential inside of them. However after the moment of power it breaks the one who used it down because the strain on their body was too great, tearing muscles and ligaments, and eventually bursting the heart. She hoped the phoenix would use it well, grateful that there was fire to create its ashes just below.
