I dunno, I'm supposed to be a man, yet I have no idea how to dress like one, I'm still rocking the t-shirt + jeans (+ hoodie) like I'm still a teenager (I'm not), and I'm fine with it

I usually dress the same. I only have two modes when it comes to buying clothes:

"Is this the cheapest hoodie/shirt/jeans I can buy?"

And

"Is this cowboy enough?"

I think this sums it up pretty well. Men aren't really too fashion conscious, its more about if it fits well, and is comfortable. There's a sliding scale of formality based on occasion. Joggers<Jeans<Trousers, Vest<T-shirt<Shirt. I think a lot of the bits the guys I know are most invested in are shoes and watches.

Corporeality
I think a lot of it boils down to internalized rules of thumb, like:
  • "don't wear clashing colors",
  • "only wear bright colors if you don't mind drawing attention to yourself,"
  • "don't wear ankle socks with long pants if they leave your ankles exposed,"
  • "don't wear leisurewear (athletic shorts/shirts, pajamas, sweatpants) out in public,"
  • and of course, "blue jeans go with everything."
I could probably drum up a long list of these, if I wanted to.

New theory: @Avidro is a Victorian Englishman

<3 <3 <3

I remember checking those out when I first finished my readthrough of the archive. When I went back this week to order some for Christmas I was like, "Hey! I know those people in the aquarium <3"

:)

Thought that was just normal everyday dresswear.
If you look closely it looks like PATENTED leatherwear, not just NORMAL leatherwear.

PLEASE do not listen to Oegyein, Even when he's not trolling, Sydney doesn't count as part of Australia.

We have suits and stuff like everyone else though we are generally a lot more casual about it.

I'd say it probably varies a lot from place to place and Australia is a big place. For example where a grew up (rural), jeans were considered formal. You would wear them with a button up shirt. Though that was a place I'm never going back to.

Is it true that tanktops can be considered formal in some areas?

*ignores that this was a joke*
No, that is a common misconception. Tanktops are not formal wear and in fact are very rarely seen at all in most areas.

I'd assume that wearing the top of a tank wouldn't fly in formal settings. I'd rather assume that it would take one of those heavy cargo transport helicopters to formally set a tank top down. (When it comes to flying)
