For a long time I was using a normal mobile phone (not smartphone).
What caused me to switch to smartphone was Wrocławski Rower Miejski
(the public bikes in the city of Wrocław)
It's possible to borrow a bike with app or with card.
I registered my cards with their system but nothing works.
Other reason is Jakdojade (app to find how to get somewhere with public city transport)
I don't like smartphone very much.
I used Cubot King Kong Mini 2.
2 reasons:
It has a more reasonable size and not like these rooftile sized phones common today
It should be able to survive dropping on the floor.
I'm constantly dropping phones because I'm not careful with them at all.
With normal phone the worst thing that happens is the battery falls out
with smartphone not so much.
Last week the phone did not survive dropping.
I was untangling headphones while phone still connected.
I was holding the cable not the phone
the phone disconnected and fell on concrete ground directly flat on its face.
It started resetting every few minutes and now it doesn't turn on at all.
My back up phone is Samsung GT-C3750
which is the best phone I ever had.
But now it is not usable because it completely fails to recognise the battery state.
It will show battery full when empty
(and demand to disconnect charger).
It will show battery empty when full
(even refusing to turn on without connecting a charger for 1 second)
or even showing charging when it's not.
So my back up back up phone is maxcom mm330
Which is horrible but at least I have it and it works.
If I don't press buttons hard enough they don't do anything which makes writing SMS a nightmare.
The touch screen interface of smartphone is not very comfortable for me.
I don't like the monopoly.
There are 2 big options to choose and one of them is android
(I'm not familiar with other side)
there if you want to install something you have to use app store
ok, theoretically you can download app file and install directly.
but many apps are available only on app store and nowhere else
like the WRM (bike) app I mentioned earlier.
and to use app store I need google account.
And everyone arond seems to accept this situation.
I made an alt account just for the phone but google probably already knows it's related
I don't like the trend of not including the headphone connector in smartphones.
What they think we don't listen to music any more?
phones are bigger than before and still there was not enough place?
It's possible to use usb adapter cable but
it's easy to lose it, I'm losing and finding mine all the time
it's easy to damage it, I destroyed a few already, the current one seems to be better at surviving
and I cannot charge while listening because it's the same usb port.
I even bought one adapter which was supposed to allow charging while listening
but as soon as I connected the charger the phone would stop using headphone output.

Have you considered buying a second hand older model off of ebay or some similar site? If you get the sweet spot where it's not too old that it's a $10000 collectors item, and where it's not so recent that it follows all these dumb new trends, you can find some decent phones for a fairly low price.

I used to have the S10 5G until the charging port died.
I was really happy with the Xperia Z II (I think) from near release until 2019, but it decided it would turn off whenever I had the audacity to phone someone
My brother has a foldy one, and like every other person I know with one, the screen has cracked across the fold. I've got the S23 ultra and it does things good, but I would recommend getting the S22 if there's any significant difference in price, especially if you're planning to run it until it's dead.

I'm still using my Samsung Galaxy S8. Had to use the insurance once, because I dropped it and the screen went black and stayed that way, and I think they just replaced it with the same model. It does everything I want it to do, so why upgrade?

On the "Time thread" which is where my forum activity other than Cresnov is happening
there is a tradition that the first one to post on a new page
(pages are 40 posts long)
becomes the "pope" of the page.
And can make an Optional Decree.
Then everyone on that page has to either
follow the decree,
ignore the decree,
anything in between,
or anything else.
(it's optional after all)
I once made a decree that people try to write their posts using the writing style of another user.
It was fun.
