So I could have sworn that "reckon" was a recurring phrase within my common-use vernacular. This is a word I use at work and in public with such frequency and comfort, until tonight I assumed was something I had been saying for years.

Recently Esther's been pointing it out whenever I say it, and it's been confusing me. I couldn't figure out if she was bringing attention to a particular australianism, or if she figured I had picked it up during one of my visits to Freedomland, but I could have sworn I've been saying it since at least highschool.

Tonight we got into an... argument(?) (Discussion? Playful banter(?)) Over our nightly call about my use of the word in which I set out to prove I've been saying it for years.

I open up our messaging app and click the little magnifying glass, and search "reckon".

... 4 times.... 3 of which were in the last week.

I open up discord... not one mention of the word.

I search through the annals and records of the great library of Cresnov to find only one mention used in the context of "a force to be reckoned with" regarding a character from h*mestuck.

I come back to Esther and admit defeat, my head hung low and my spirits lower. Turns out my girlfriend knows more about me than I do.

I had a theory on this forum that everyone here is related to Esther.

My current working theory is that Esther is a hive mind parasite who has been slowly taking me over with Texan slang and southern mannerisms, which explains why my not-australian accent has gotten so much more American lately.

... I should probably redo that accent tag video someday.

EstherTb's family is commonly mistaken for a hive mind. All of EstherTb's family members reach similar conclusions when given the same base assumptions. It is just that EstherTb's family members were all taught to think critically about all information learned.

It could be something you vocalise often but rarely type. I use it multiple times a day but extremely rarely in written form.

Reckon you're onto something there.

It's interesting how your language (mostly) subconsciously flexes depending on what social group your communicating in.

It's called code-switching (at least in anthropology) and I agree, it's very interesting. ☺❤💕 And most of us probably don't realize how much code-switching we do.
With friends, at work, with parents, with children, in a written essay, in a text message, with members of the same or opposite sex, with members of the same or different race, with people of a different social class, the elderly, etc. Let alone for the multilingual among us! There's so much possible code-switching one can do, especially depending on your own cultural upbringing.

My linguistic anthropology textbook had some interesting case studies/chapters about things like:
Uptalk and vocal fry in young women
Online communication
AAVE
New York Jewish dinner conversations

LANGUAGE IS SO COOL AND I'M SO BAD AT IT

So in about 8 or 9 hours we can expect to get hit by tropical storm/hurricane hilary, so that's gonna be interesting.

Once again I discover that it is a bad idea to work on a bicycle on late evening.
Disregarding this wise advice this Saturday resulted in doing more damage when I just wanted to fix.
Luckily, I can recover from this situation.

I hate it when projects go like that! I hope you got it fixed up!

What kind of mental impression would this one have given you, I wonder.
We will never know.
It's possible to have just one first impression and I already had it.

A first impression on forum, that is.
I have previously seen your appearances on Dear Dzuna pages but that's something else.

Maybe I can make a secret new account and get another first forum impression.
