What about a lemon that's had 90% of its insides replaced with an orange's insides?chaosenjoyer said:everything on earth is either a lemon or not a lemon
and what if you build a new lemon with the original lemon insides? is it the same lemon? or something entirely new? What about a lemon that's had 90% of its insides replaced with an orange's insides?
how many particles do you have to remove from a lemon before it ceases to be a lemon?and what if you build a new lemon with the original lemon insides? is it the same lemon? or something entirely new?
Remove 1 lemon particle from 1 lemon and there is no longer a lemon where there was a lemon. This causes your lemons to decrease from 1 to 1. You have no lemons where the lemon was. Now your lemon particle is gone from the place you had it. However, now that you don't have the lemon particle where you had the lemon particle, you now have a lemon particle where you have a lemon particle. This causes you to have a lemon. But is it the same lemon? That depends on what the definition of is is. If you really think about it. "Lemon" is a concept. We apply this concept to objects. Specific objects are located in specific locations in spacetime. You could think of time as a single continuous progression of everything that exists, or you could think of it as an infinite or very large number of single moments. If you think of time as moments, then every single moment in time is a new reality that lasts no time at all... and the lemon is a new and completely unrelated lemon. However, that would mean that you don't truly exist as yourself. "You" would just be a collection of moment's that looks like it thinks it's a person, when, in fact, it is not. Therefore you couldn't remove any lemon particles from a lemon without being replaced by another moment. This, of course, is only true if time is an infinite or very large amount of single moments or if you are not omnipresent which would make you transcendent over realities. However, I highly doubt that you are omnipresent. If you were omnipresent. You could interact with lower dimentions as if they were higher. This would be like altering a picture... But would you actually be changing anything? Or would it have always never been a lemon?how many particles do you have to remove from a lemon before it ceases to be a lemon?
The water never becomes pee. The pee is merely contaminating the water.Related question @Avidro and I were debating recently: (gross warning) how much pee can you pour into water before the water becomes pee?
"My brother replaced the handle, and I replaced the head, but it's still our father's axe." Debate.and what if you build a new lemon with the original lemon insides? is it the same lemon? or something entirely new?
Depends on whether or not your father claims ownership over the axe."My brother replaced the handle, and I replaced the head, but it's still our father's axe." Debate.
Guess I should have said "our late father's axe".Depends on whether or not your father claims ownership over the axe.
By that point I'd start calling it "THE AXE OF [LAST NAME]"Guess I should have said "our late father's axe".
If you kill someone, are they dead? If they are dead, are they the same person? If you eat the dead person and..... empty your bowels.... is the... waste the person? If the universe vanishes and a new universe appears that is a perfect replication of this one, would the person in this universe be the same person as the one in the previous universe? Yes. The universe has recently been replaced by a perfect replication.Guess I should have said "our late father's axe".
This is how Jojo Stone Ocean endedIf you kill someone, are they dead? If they are dead, are they the same person? If you eat the dead person and..... empty your bowels.... is the... waste the person? If the universe vanishes and a new universe appears that is a perfect replication of this one, would the person in this universe be the same person as the one in the previous universe? Yes. The universe has recently been replaced by a perfect replication.
It's about the concept. It doesn't matter if it's the same or different materials if you don't accept it as the Ship of Theseus. My point was, is it still the same axe? Is it a duplicate of some kind? What if they didn't replace the head and handle with ones of the same size and shape? Is it still the same axe if their father wouldn't recognize it any more?
But I'm sure you both understood that and are just having fun.
Got a new patron!! ...but the bar didn't update right away, because of the website's server-side cache.I've added a little widget to the main site
