It is weirdly addictive isn't it. Have you chosen a team?

I was immediately drawn to the Hazers and the Raspberry Racers--then I found out my best friend @Airface (who got me to watch it) is a Raspberry Racers fan, so now obviously I'm 100% Hazers and am rooting against her team.

I have a soft spot for the plucky losers, Team Momo. Then Crazy Cats Eyes are a close second.

In other sports news the last couple of weeks have been good for my family. My team West Bromwich Albion scraped their way back into the top flight of English football, and my brothers chosen team, Aston Villa, avoiding relegation from said top flight. Which means we get derby days again. WOOT!

It's a volleyball anime, possibly the most popular sports anime of all time now??
Anyway I'm hooked and I've also started watching real life volleyball clips now.
Idk if sports anime really belongs in this thread but I figured I'd try here first

So that's why I've not heard of it. The only anime I have watched in the last decade is One Punch man. I don't really watch too many 'tv' shows at all nowdays.
I mean it's gotten you interested in a sport, so it fits in here. It's not like much else goes on here anyways, comes to something when I'm the resident jock

I've never been one for enjoying sports, but Haikyuu!! really makes me question that now. Honestly watching an episode makes me wanna pick up a ball and go PLAY. Of course I'm not really into team stuff so uh, that probably won't ever actually happen.
Technically it's not the first sports anime I've watched, I also watched Yuri on Ice (ice skating) which I enjoyed, but not nearly to the same extent. Haikyuu!! is like, probably in my top 5 anime now.

I was kind of hoping someone in here might also have suggestions for other sports anime, I've seen some good stuff about Kuroko no Basket so I might give that a try.

Now I'm going to go into a tangent about how much I love Haikyuu!!

Okay the main that REALLY gets me with the show is the animation, there's some really gorgeous shots that I can just watch over and over again. And the soundtrack is ALSO pretty f'ing grand which just adds to how good the animation is.

I like the very realistic growth of the characters, the main character is athletic but inexperienced, which acts as the vehicle for the audience to learn about the sport from the ground up. We see our main characters win and we see them lose. We see them struggle and practice developing new skills that eventually pay off and it feels like they earned it, there's no magical nine-tailed demon fox that's going to pop out and god mode the volleyball match for them or something.

And it does it a good job fleshing out all sorts of minor characters, to the point that sometimes you want to root for the opposing team.

The closest thing to a sports anime that I can think of is "Levius." It's about boxers with steampunk-augmented prosthetic limbs. There is a 10-episode season of it on Netflix.

Just a google image search has me very intrigued. It looks like it might be fully cg though... is it animated well?

I was kind of hoping someone in here might also have suggestions for other sports anime, I've seen some good stuff about Kuroko no Basket so I might give that a try.

Whilst not an anime, and bearing little to no resemblance to the actual sport, I have a soft spot for the film Shaolin Soccer. It's one of those films that were on late at night I put on to doze off to and ended up watching the whole thing.

Yeah, I think I would.
It's funny, and gives surprisingly good workout advice.

Both teams had their chances and failed to capitalise on them. It was a good game overall despite the lack of goals. To put it into perspective out of 115 meetings between the two, only 4 of them have failed to produce a goal.

Also the last time they met at a major tournament Paul Gascoigne scored a filthy goal (the second one).

England have made it through to the final of Euro 2020 (postponed because well I think you know why). In totally unrelated news I think about 3 years were just shaved off my life, so I will pop my clogs a week on Tuesday.

They face Italy Sunday to determine the Champions of Europe (my money would be on Italy)
