I'm introductioning myself now

I have been asked to introduce myself so that people might actually know who I am.
That's a good idea because then I can read this later and also know who I am.

I discovered the comic not long ago.
I saw this adverisement picture:

and I thought that I can't expect anything good from a comic which is advertised by this kind of picture.
(don't ask me why - I don't know)
Anyway, I decided to try.
I saw the front page with praising quotes which made me even more suspicious for some reason.
But I decided to try the prologue to see what this will be.
After the prologue: ok, maybe 1 more chapter.
And after a few chapters I realised that this is totally interesting.
I finished reading in 2 or 3 days if I remember correctly,
and reached the last page which at that time was the Amber's water show.
I'm following the story now.

I did not get interested in forum as I don't have a habit of joining forums and even more staying in them.
With small exceptions.
So what convinced me to join now?
The minecraft game.
Yes, really.

I wonder it that was a trick to convince people to join.
Because in my case it worked.

The name "bicycles on the moon" is something I came up with in 2010 and I'm using it almost everywhere.
(Except where I use the name "balthasar_s" which comes from my name)
The name was a good idea as there is unlikely that something else is also called "bicycles on the moon"
so it's used also as for example my domain name bicyclesonthemoon.info and as youtube channel name, etc.

My actual name is Balthasar and it was always a source of confusion of how to write it correctly as people write it with "s" or "z" with or without "h". The truth is I don't care.
You can also call me b.

Now that I'm here
...I don't know what's next. Let's see.

Welcome. What site did you see the Exvulnerum ad on? For me it was Detox Camp.

Welcome, Balthasar! Thanks for the introduction--which made me laugh a lot. I'm glad your suspicions weren't confirmed. And that the Minecraft trick worked :ohohoho:

Since you have enough likes now, you should gain image posting privs when the forum does its automatic user updates.

you can tell that the advertising is effective because that is the exact same banner that brought me in from the exact same website

Time to spin the wheel of questions:
What is your favorite color?
What is the best thing to pickle other than cucumbers?
What is your favorite particle in the Atlantic Ocean?

Welcome to Cresnov, bicycles. Enjoy your stay.

I kept seeing the banner and it kind of annoyed me.
But at some point I decided to check, to find out what's on the other side of it.

Before that, I recently had some bad luck with webcomics because some of the comics I found and liked were discontinued or on a break.
Speaking of which, one of such comics that I like (Otherknown) recently started updating again after a break over 2 years!

Time to spin the wheel of questions:
Oh no, there is a
WHEEL OF QUESTIONS?

people want to
extract information out of me

What is your favorite color?
Ok, an easy and nice question.
Actually, no.
It's one of the standard questions you get when learning a foreign language (like English) at school.
but this one is ok,
There are other kinds of questions from the common set which I don't like.

I don't very like the concept of
having a favorite color.
Reality is more complicated.

Of course when I have the choice of what color something should have
I will like some options more than others.
For example, If I have to choose what color to paint my room,
the choice is yellow.

For making drawings or writings I like to use a pen
(an actual pen - why does English have the same word for pen and pen?)
with blue or brown or black ink.

I have prepared some color palettes in Gimp
Screenshot from 2023-06-25 21-29-43.png

which I like to use
(especially I like b-04, with the blue 0057AF and brown BB6622)
for making pictures or animations like these:
bsta-000034.png

bsta-000235.png

bsta-000488.gif

bsta-000459.gif

Or this:

Ok, I kind of do like to choose the blue and brown.
And I like making with reduced color palettes.

What is the best thing to pickle other than cucumbers?
you mean
put in a jar, submerged in some fluid and stuff and preserve it for the future?

cucumbers are the only ones I like this way,
some other stuff I might tolerate but not like

sorry, no good answer for this.

What is your favorite particle in the Atlantic Ocean?
I don't know why specify the Atlantic Ocean.
After all,
all matter in the universe (including the Atlantic Ocean) is made of the same elementary particles.

So I would choose
the electron.
Electrons are cool.

Or If you mean which particle would be my favorite if I was in the Atlantic Ocean?
I don't know.
I have never been in the Atlantic Ocean.

Sorry for being largely absent from the game and the forums. I have work which takes up 95% of my time awake.
Also belated greetings from myself.

Much like the legend above me, I too am absent a lot of the time. Still, I hope you enjoy the amazing community we have here and if you ever need anything feel free to reach out. It already sounds like you'll fit in nicely though.

Introduction status update:

As mentioned before, the trigger to discover the forum and join was the Minecraft game.
The game is over and I'm still here.
Successful entrance, I guess.
There was a very good welcome here.
Not very familiar with this place yet but I like it here.

Last time I successfully joined a community on a forum and stayed there was almost exactly 10 years ago.
So by extrapolation, I should find one more place to join in 2033.

Not sure how much to share here about myself and stuff I do and make.
As I don't want to be seen as spamming with my stuff or "stealing the show".

Thanks everyone for the good welcome so far!

As the most menial of prognosticators here, welcome to the barricaded gorge & clutter Cresnov is.

The show stole me, btw. I still don't know where to file a report about that, tho.

Ok, in this case I'll gradually introduce new parts and when that's too much you can tell me to stop.
And then I might stop
(but not immediately because of inertia)

Ok, so English is not my primary language, It's my bonus language,
maybe that could be noticed from my writing.
Part of it is because of non-primary language, part is my actual style.

I like creating stuff, in various forms.
drawing, programming, actual objects, ...
Creating is one of the things that makes me happy the most.
Even if the things are a result of my random arbitrary choice which makes no practical sense.

There is a website:
Link: "BOTM!"
(there are other sites too, but that will come in another post, I'm not ready to share everything at once)
What can be found there:
- Git repositories of some code I have written (but not all - I have not moved everything there yet)
- descriptions of things I made (2 written so far - there will be more)
- files to download related to the abovementioned stuff.
What can not be found there:
- a lot of stuff that should be there but isn't because I didn't add it yet.
- even more stuff that should not be there and never will.

The website is hosted on a server which is actually a small computer in my basement.
In case any of the links don't work it might be because of the IP address change - don't worry, just wait a few minutes and it will work again.
Or there might be deeper problems (last month I had missing internet connection for 3 days) - don't worry, just wait a few hours/days and it will work again.

2 Particular things that are there that I'm proud of:

1. I built a piano-like electronic instrument:
klavirko-0000.jpg
Link: Link: "Building from scratch a piano-like electronic instrument"

Behind that link you can find a detailed description in English and a much less serious video in Polish (but English subtitles are available)

2. CPIED
in05.png
Link: Link: "CPIED- a CPI file editor for DOS"

This is a program for DOS which is a fullscreen editor for CPI files.
(CPI files define the appearance of text on screen and contain multiple "code pages" for multiple languages)
It works as it should but the code is terrible and is an example of how not to write code.
It might have been a useful program if it was created in the 80s but it was created in 2013.
Anyway it was still more successful than I expected because:
- it became one of the packages downloadable with the FreeDOS system. - which is cool
- I saw it listed as one of the tools used in the The Ultimate Oldschool PC Font Pack - which is also cool
Ironically, I didn't end up using it for anything serious.

There is a youtube channel where I sometimes upload silly videos:
They are in Polish language but most of them have English subtitles available

Ok, that's enough for now.
To be continued later.

I watched part (just part because I'm gearing up for work here soon) of the piano-like instrument video, and I'm astonished! Amazing work, seriously.
