So, Nothing Better by The Postal Service is one of those rare songs that has utterly and completely blown my mind. I have a lot of stuff to say about it, but this one's got a story, and saying anything would be spoilers. Really pay attention to the lyrics and try to set up the scene in your mind as the story unfolds.

I love the way the first verse sets it up as a traditional love song, only to be completely blown out of the water by the second verse. Once you understand the context, the whole first verse hits differently, especially the line "I can't accept that it's over." The perspective switch in the second verse reveals the true nature of the incident. The cycle of abuse is one of the most terrifyingly consistent concepts in psychology, and the third phase is always an apology similar to what the male singer says throughout the song. And in the cycle of abuse, the apology is followed by another instance of abuse. I particularly like the part where the female singer acknowledges that "you've got allure, I can't deny", it illustrates the difficulty of getting out of a relationship like that. Anyway, that's my crazy songdump for today. How's your Tuesday been?

ooh I sang that for one of my singing class's projects in 2021
I would link it here but it's not great (I'd be interested trying again now though)

I'd like to get your guys opinion on this one, there is (or at least there was for me) a content warning on it, and it is accurate. Honestly one of my favourite bands, even if a large portion of their back catalogue would not be releasable today. When they do serious songs (mainly about mental health) is when I feel they really shine.

Also for albums full of songs with meaning, Rise Against, are always a good place to go and one of their songs/albums was the inspiration for this.

I wanted to see if I improved at all at singing in the past two years, so I tried singing Nothing Better again just now.

I'm still not a great singer, but I think I've improved!

Today
Old version (just for reference, the assignment was to really try to get into the ~emotion~ of it, so that's why I look so tryhard lol)

I'm done with my Killers discography listen-through!

Pressure Machine, their latest album, is... wow I forgot how dark and depressing this is. It's real. But it's captivating storytelling, and it's one of those things where you just gotta keep listening? Quality music, although it's way too acoustic/folk rock for my personal music tastes as a four-to-the-floor city girl.

Here's my final ranking, including Sawdust even though it's not technically a main album:
  1. Sam's Town
  2. Hot Fuss
  3. Imploding the Mirage
  4. Battle Born
  5. Sawdust
  6. Day & Age
  7. Pressure Machine
  8. Wonderful Wonderful
It's been fun.

My dad's reply when I shared my list with him: "What? You got PM way too low bro"

Welp, that's a terrifying thumbnail you can never unsee ;-)

(Pov, you're a delicious slice of pizza).
Excuse you, I think you mean the most beautiful thumbnail that you always want to see.

Listened to this song entirely because the title made me think of exvulnerum. And the song... is literally the evey punk rock band I joked about at the start of ch. 21. Lines like "Must hold the crown, can't give up now" and "the king is broken" really just drive home the exv. vibes
